During a football match, there are initially 11 players in each team. On top of that, there are players on the substitutes’ bench, which can be from 7 to 12 depending on the game. A coach can make up to 5 or 12 substitutions during a match. However, there can be many more players throughout the club.
In this case, the most important thing is the regulations of the football federation in question. Some of them allow up to 25 players to register with some important factors such as the number of alumni of the club. In some leagues (e.g., Portuguese), there are no restrictions on the size of the registered squad.
Inter-club competitions and local cups may also differ in regulations, but the minimum number of players to register is usually 25 players.
